To the MVK Community:

The purpose of this letter is to inform you that an individual at Mazon-Verona-Kinsman Elementary School has been designated as a probable case. The person is in isolation and any close contacts have been notified. This case is NOT related to the case we informed you of on Friday.

As always, everyone should monitor their health and stay at home if they develop symptoms. Sick persons should contact their health care provider to determine if testing is needed. Anyone who develops severe symptoms should seek medical care immediately. If your child has had close contact with a known case of COVID-19, keep the child at home and notify your primary healthcare provider, the appropriate MVK School, and the county health department, 815-941-3404.

We are committed to providing your child and our staff with a safe and healthy environment. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation with our COVID-19 prevention policies and procedures as we work to help protect your children, your families, and our staff and their families. GREAT NEWS! The USDA has renewed the opportunity for schools to serve breakfast and lunch to all students free of charge (Summer Food Service Program). This program will run from September 1, 2020, through December 31, 2020.

What does this mean for our school and community?

1) All children at the school will be able to eat free of charge for breakfast and lunch (we still need them to order it in the morning). No parent emails are required to order lunches.

2) All children in the community ages 18 and under can receive breakfast and lunch also! Parents of children who are not in school (homeschooled, blended, or not school age) need to email the school at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. before 8:00 am EACH morning indicating the number of breakfasts and lunches needed for the day. Meals will be picked up at the MIDDLE SCHOOL regardless of the age of the students. Parents/guardians will drive in to the bus lane and wait in the vehicle for meals to be brought to them. Everyone should be masked in the vehicle as required under IDPH rules while delivery is being picked up. Breakfast pick-up time is 8:30 -8:50. Lunch pick-up time is 11:55 – 12:20 pm. Meals should only be acquired from one entity. For example, if your high school student is receiving a lunch and breakfast from their school, they should not be receiving one from MVK. You can receive meals for your children that are not school age, so please make sure to include them. Blended Learners and students that are homeschooled may also participate.

Again, email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. before 8:00 am EACH morning indicating the number of meals for children 18 years of age or younger.

For students that received school meals in August, lunch accounts were charged as normal. This new program took effect on September 1. Notification regarding the new program came to the schools on September 2.

No extra entrees will be available to purchase. Milks will still be available for students who bring their lunch to school at a cost of $0.35.
